Salt-resistant seed varieties

Salt-resistant seed varieties
For productive use of saline water and soil

What and Why
Globally, 250 million people live on salt-afflicted soil and water resources. Farmers in such areas are forced to use brackish groundwater  for irrigation, reducing overall yields and quality.

Salt-tolerant crop varieties enable farmers to farm profitably and productively. An example is the salt-tolerant variety of potatoes developed in The Netherlands and being promoted in Pakistan’s arid Sindh region.

Who
The variety has been developed by SaltFarm Texel (also known as Zilt Proefbedrijf), based in Texel, The Netherlands (http://www.saltfarmtexel.com/). They are being promoted in Sindh in partnership with MetaMeta, a Dutch water management solutions company (www.metameta.nl).
