Video Lectures (2011-2012)
‘Insights from Ethiopia,’ a DVD-based package of video lectureson Integrated River Basin Management topics was produced and distributed through universities and research organizations (mostly in Ethiopia but also internationally). The idea was to capture the work and experiences of academicians/ practitioners working at the ground level. Apart from being used as a learning package in educational institutions, the lectures have also informed the work of practitioners working on natural resources management in Ethiopia. Similar lecture packages on other themes (such as Spate Irrigation) are currently under preparation.
The package has been developed and distributed in partnership with NUFFIC-supported University Water Sector Partnership, the EU FP-7 WAHARAproject and the Dutch WASH Alliance.

Extending database and strengthening networks (2011)
UNESCO-IHP had planned the development of an audiovisual online platform on water and sanitation. Rather than producing an additional largely overlapping resource, UNESCO-IHP joined forces with TheWaterChannel. We extended and improved our database, established new partnerships with film producers and through a promotional campagin among the school network of UNESCO-IHP we connect to a global network of 8500 schools. With this project we became part of the Decade for Education of Sustainable Development (DESD).

Thematic DVD package: Water Management in motion (2011)
Since the launch of TheWaterChannel in March 2009 we received frequent requests from visitors, especially in the educational sector in developing countries, for hardcopies of videos on TheWaterChannel. We noticed that in low or no connectivity situations access is difficult, but also demand is high. In this context, Cap-Net and TheWaterChannel carried out a survey among Cap-Net's members. The outcome of the survey resulted in the development of a DVD box which can be used for educational and training purposes, conference screening, capacity building activities, and as advocacy tool. This project is supported by Cap-Net, GWP, IFAD, NUFFIC, RAIN, UNESCO-IHE and WGF. Click here for more information.

Water and Soil Lab Videos (2011)
It is a challenge for educational institutes worldwide to offer students the possibility of practical learning. With educational reforms ongoing in many countries the emphasis is shifting away from "chalk and talk" type of teaching. By introducing basic soil and water laboratory tests on video prior to performing the lab test and field exercises, costly lab time is saved. We developed a DVD including 16 basic soil and lab tests filmed in Ethiopia. This project was supported by Cap-Net and the Nuffic program "Strengthening Ethiopian Universities in Integrated River Basin Management".
