Sediment Use and Intake Design in Spate Irrigation Schemes

Sediment providing additional fertility to a farmer’s land is a blessing; sediment filling the canals of an irrigation system a disaster.

In this lecture John Ratsey discusses how to in- and exclude sediment in your irrigation scheme by design of the intake structure. The focus of the lecture is on spate irrigation systems, systems designed to deal with high sediment loads during flash flood events.
