Growing a community’s health and wealth

The village of Mvungayane, like many villages in rural South Africa, still faces challenges such as unreliable water supply; poor sanitary facilities, poverty and HIV/AIDS.
In a project that addresses both social and economic impacts, the CSIR has helped the community establish a small-medium enterprise named Isulabasha, which trades in water and sanitation-related services. The new business is supported through a CSIR-developed handwashing dispenser and by assistance from the CSIR with its market presence and exposure.
