El Nino is a natural phenomenon that irregular occurs (once in three to seven years). Hot water reaches the coast of Peru around January and leads to an end of the fishing season. Normally there is cold water which has flown from the south pole. The hot water is supplied from Indonesia and the Phillipines by a western storm in the direction of the eastern trade winds. El Nino influences the weather in great parts of the world. For instance, in Peru it causes heavy rainfalls, while the other side of the Pacific ocean (e.g. Australia and Indonesia) will face extreme drought.
